2013 can bite me.
Mar. 6th, 2013 01:33 pmI had my cat Toes put to sleep last night. He was probably feeling sick, off and on, for a while (he periodically had decreased appetite, but always ate his gooshy food, and he'd actually been eating great for the last several days before he got acutely ill), but he really only let on the last few days, when his lungs were so full of fluid that his labored breathing was pretty damn hard to miss, and it was far too late to have any hope of treating him. The vet gave me enough Lasix to get him through one more day, so I could call his previous owner so she could come over and say goodbye.
And yeah, I miss him, the quirky old guy. He was awesome with dogs, even my pushy-ass border collies, especially Jodah, who wanted to herd him around all the time. I'm sure I'll miss him even more as it really sinks in.
And it is *weird* to not have a cat in the house. I realized that I've had cats for my entire 40 years on this planet, with a 2-year break while I was living in a dorm at college.
So yeah, it's more or less a given that I'll be getting another cat. Not sure when, not sure how, and probably sooner than most people think would be "decent." I watched Nosemovie's "cats are jerks" video and laughed my butt off. I need some jerks to live with. :-) Plus, I need a bit of joy right now, I think. I may go down to the humane society and sit in their cat room a bit this weekend, not to pick out a cat (unless I seriously fall in love), but to get a cat fix at least. There's a long list of requirements for one living in my house. "Knows how to deal with pushy-ass dogs" is one, heh.
